Yappy Hour is a fluffy, new happy-hour-style event for pet lovers and their pups! The party begins at 5:30 pm at the DoubleTree by Hilton on the Riverfront on Friday, July 26. It features a playful Margaritaville theme, a live Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band, a delicious gourmet menu (for both humans and dogs), handmade “New Bern Bear” dog biscuits—and of course, the best margaritas and tropical drinks in town served at the tiki bar!
Hosted by Swiss Bear and the DoubleTree by Hilton on the Riverfront, the festivities will feature one of New Bern’s most stunning waterfront views from the fabulous DoubleTree deck.
In addition to the great atmosphere, music, food and drink, the event will also feature doggie play areas, including the “puppy paddle pool” for small dogs and the “terrific toy corner,” as well as custom-made New Bern doggie bandanas, and handmade doggie swag bags with gourmet treats.
“We hope that Yappy Hour will grow into a regular event on the last Friday of each month in the summertime, providing our dog-friendly town and its residents a special time to gather, listen to music, eat, drink, dance and mingle with other pet lovers. It’s a perfect environment to have summertime fun in good company—even if you don’t have a pup,” says Ann Marie Byrd, Events Director for Swiss Bear. “This fun community event has been a few years in the making, and Anthony Allen, the chef at the Doubletree, has been very creative with the menus. Chef has created some fabulous Polynesian salmon street tacos with mango salsa, Tennessee and BBQ beef sliders, a lobster salad roll and grilled fruit kabobs. The pups will have a separate made-to-order menu with three high-quality protein choices including angus beefs sliders with green beans and peas; steamed chicken with wilted spinach and carrots; poached salmon with sweet potato spinach and white rice; and a bark board with beef, peanut butter and seasonal veggies. The pups also have special craft cocktails including a Pawsecco and a Puppacino with peanut butter and whipped cream.”
Proceeds from the event for food and beverage sales benefit Swiss Bear in their continual support of downtown development. Entrance to the event is free and open to the public, with the generous support of community sponsors.
At the time of this publication, Yappy Hour is generously sponsored by Sun Bern NC and Le Petit Bisou.
