Unresolved

Dear Henrietta,

It’s the first week of the new year, and I can’t seem to come up with a resolution.  I just don’t have any motivation!  Can you help?

Signed,

Unresolved

Dear Unresolved,

Well, if it makes you feel any better I haven’t made a New Year’s resolution either!  Resolutions are all about self-improvement and commitment!  How about we brainstorm about what you would like to improve about yourself.  I can come up with a list of common problems, and you can choose which one applies to you.  Don’t despair:  certainly, there is something wrong with you!

Are you overweight or underweight, have bad eating habits, drink excessively, or don’t exercise enough?  Are you overworked, underpaid, or both?  Do you have an unhappy marriage or relationship and suffer from unrelenting family quarrels because your children are driving you crazy?  Do you struggle with debt and financial management?  Do you wish you had more time for fun with your family and friends, but are burdened by the stressors of life?

Do you just want to run away from it all and go on a permanent vacation anywhere to get away from where you are in this moment?

Well, I don’t know about you, but after making that list of everyone else’s problems, I’m feeling a little depressed.  I think I’ll go pour myself a stiff drink, trim my cat’s nails and binge watch Netflix.

I hope this helps and remember:  what the New Year brings you is determined by what you bring to the New Year.  Good luck!

Love,

Henrietta
