Spring has sprung- the creeping phlox and daffodils have begun to blossom, and our honey bees are feverishly collecting pollen from nearby maples and henbit! It’s also when our garden events spring into bloom! This spring holds many new events and a garden reopening for us that we hope you’ll come enjoy.
Get ready for your garden by joining us for our March 9th Garden Lecture featuring Hadley Cheris and Jennifer Knight co-hosting “Heirloom Vegetables for ENC & Spring Trade Specials”, focusing on heirloom vegetables best adapted to face the weather challenges here at 10am in Cullman Hall. Join us for Behind the Scenes Garden Tours starting from the Waystation at 2pm on Tuesday, March 12 and 19.
Celebrate the wonders of the natural world during Natural History Day at Tryon Palace, March 23 from 10am- 2pm. Meet an 18th century scientist and explore the campsite of a natural historian living in the wilderness. Practice your powers of scientific observation of plants and animals as you roam the grounds and gardens, and learn how 18th century science continues to inform life and biological sciences today.
One of my favorite spring events is our Tryon Palace Spring Plant Sale! This year the sale will be Friday and Saturday, April 12 and 13, from 9am-5pm. There will be veggies, herbs, annuals, shrubs and perennials so come early to get your favorites. The gardens will also be free all weekend, April 12-14, so don’t forget to put us on your schedule! It’s a wonderful time to see the newly renovated Kellenberger Garden which officially opens April 5!
We hope to see you soon- Happy gardening!
Hadley Cheris, Tryon Palace Gardens and Greenhouse Manager
