    John T. Eiseman
    Hebron, Maryland
My paintings are surely representational and narrative, but they are not about the pictorial. I use the subject matter as elements of design in order to capture mood of “event.” Painting is not just the celebration of vision but, rather a quest for experience. It is the process of interpreting a fleeting muse. This process is in a constant state of emergency. Change is always in process. Light is fleeting. I do not consider myself a “plein air” purist – I reserve the artistic license to adjust and invent.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1981 and have been painting, teaching, and exhibiting ever since. My work has been accepted into and awarded in many regional and national juried exhibitions – awards include many “best-in-show”, “Best-in-category”, artist choice, purchase and juror’s choice. My paintings are honored to be in many private and public collections.

Painting is my way to be with God and His creation. I want to soak it in, understand it as well as I can, and then capture the special beauty of life as light and shadow fill the scene. I prefer to paint outdoors directly on site. I feel that it is the best way to capture the immediacy of the moment. It allows me to immerse myself in the subject.

My focus is oil painting with a palette knife and the energy and emotion that it presents. I see every painting as a journey of new opportunity and growth.
