Pet: Freya
Owner: Charlotte Dunham
Freya is a three-year-old Russian Blue Mix cat. Her family adopted their sweet Freya from the Craven Pamlico Animal Services Center, and they are sure that they picked the right pet for their family!
“Freya’s biggest joy is wanting to go outside and then changing her mind the second someone opens the door. When she does actually go outside, squirrels and lizards are her nemesis, and she will hunt them with reckless abandon,” says her owner, Charlotte.
Freya has also learned some pretty impressive tricks: “She has learned to reach with her front paws to gently take her treat out of your hand while sitting up on her hind legs. She can also open cabinet doors and even sometimes bedroom doors!”
Like so many cats, her favorite food is canned tuna and she knows the second the can is opened.
“Freya is special because when she was adopted, the staff at the shelter warned us that she may have difficulty bonding with us,” says Charlotte. “She quickly imprinted on me and now she follows me room to room—always settling to nap just a few inches away from me. I am a 15 year old homeschooled 9th grader and Freya was my 13th birthday present. I am a budding author and love having my baby beside me all the time! The name Freya has significance in Norse mythology and I love how cats were considered good luck during that time. Freya has certainly been good luck for me!”
