Sudan Shriners 2023 Winter Ceremonial

January 21, 2023 @ 12:00 pm

Sudan Shriners along with their Ladies, families, colorful units, and enthusiasm will return to New Bern for their yearly Winter Ceremonial. The ceremonial will be held on January 20-21, 2023. Most activities will be held at the beautiful Riverfront Convention Center of Craven County. The Ladies Breakfast, honoring all Sudan Shrine Ladies, and their special guests will be held on Saturday morning at the Maola at Riverside.

The January 21 parade through downtown New Bern will bring the favorite public event of the weekend. The parade is scheduled to step off at 12pm from Kafer Park on George St, down Broad St., to Middle St., and conclude at South Front St.. The reviewing stand will be on Middle Street featuring our Master of Ceremonies Noble John Moore. Units such as little cars and trucks, clowns, and many more fun groups will entertain New Bern families and children.

Shriners will fill local hotels in support of their beloved fraternity and philanthropy. To become a Shriner, one must be a Master Mason. “To be one, ask one.” Freemasonry is recognized as one of the oldest fraternities and takes good men and helps them become better men.

Ceremonials provide perfect opportunities for Shriners to welcome new Shriners and their Ladies, conduct business, recognize accomplishments, and plan their future. They also enjoy fellowship together with their families.  The Sudan Shriners parade in downtown New Bern is always popular for Shrine families and the community. Shrine patients, horses, clowns, many varieties of motorized vehicles, marching units, and more parade to entertain those in attendance.

Louis Smith III, a lifelong resident of Wilmington, will be installed as the 106th Potentate of Sudan Shriners. In 2023, Sudan Shriners ceremonials will also be held in Greenville, May 19-20, in Wilmington for a 1-day ceremonial on September 9 and on Veteran’s Day weekend November 11-12.

Shriners Children’s, their philanthropy, is an international healthcare system dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing pediatric specialty care, innovative research and teaching programs while providing wraparound care for the child. Shriners Children’s has proudly served over 1.5 million children. Shriners and supporters fundraise tirelessly to support their healthcare facilities.
