New Bern Civic Theatre (NBCT) will officially launch the 2023 season with a reception this Friday, Feb. 10 to celebrate a $200K renovation project phase that has progressed over the past 18 months that includes new seating, HVAC units, restrooms, sound and lighting equipment, and an intimate new performance/rehearsal venue in the neighboring Athens Café space newly renamed the ‘Studio Theatre’. The theatre closed to the public on Dec. 6, 2022 to complete this phase of the project and will reopen with a ribbon cutting and reception from 5:30-9:00 p.m. All are welcome and invited to attend.
“It has taken a tremendous amount of work and support from our community of volunteers and donors to make this dream a reality,” said Michael Tahaney, New Bern Civic Theatre Executive Director. “The success of this project shows how important New Bern Civic Theatre is to our area.”
NBCT invites the public to attend this Friday’s open house, which is being held in conjunction with February Art Walk and Red Tent Events. Attendees will be allowed backstage access for a rare glimpse of the green room and theatre volunteers will be available to provide tours and insight about the project. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided by TPI Market and beverages will be available, courtesy of Surf, Wind and Fire.
