Reception: June 9 • 5-8pm
Exhibit on display through June 30
Craven Arts Council is proud to present their annual Juneteenth exhibition in the Main Gallery. This exhibition will feature work by local African American artists. Craven Arts Council will host a reception during ArtWalk from 5-8pm on Friday, June 9th.
Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19th every year and commemorates the announcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in the state of Texas after the Civil War. In honor of this historic celebration of freedom in the South, local African American artists will present works about African American History. Each artist has been given a time period and asked to create artwork based off historical events from that time period. Participating artists include Tony Graves, Crystal Felton, Byran King and Jahn Anderson. The panels in the Main Gallery will each represent a time period, creating a visual timeline of African American History since the original Juneteenth.
