August 25 • 2pm • River End of Johnson St.
“Forward Together,” a coalition of nonprofits, community members and local residents, will honor and recognize John Moore, New Bern native, who in 1905 fell victim to racial violence on the Neuse River Bridge. This project is part of the Equal Justice Initiative’s Community Remembrance Projects.
The event will include sharing the historical background of John Moore’s lynching; prayers and blessings by local church leaders; and soil collection at the site. One soil sample will be sent for display at the Legacy Museum in Montgomery, Alabama, alongside soil samples from lynching sites across the country. Another sample will be kept in Craven County with Craven Arts and at various community events and locations.
This event is free and open to the public, and will occur rain or shine.
