2023 Bike MS: Historic New Bern Ride

September 9, 2023 @ 8:00 am

On September 9 and 10, 1,300 cyclists will hit the road for Bike MS: Historic New Bern Ride to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for multiple sclerosis. Hosted by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Bike MS: Historic New Bern Ride invites companies, co-workers, neighbors, friends and family to team up for an extraordinary ride to make a difference in the lives of nearly 1 million people living with MS in the U.S.

Cyclists will ride 30, 50, 75 or 100 miles on Saturday and Sunday, departing from Union Point Park and experiencing fully stocked rest stops every 10 to 12 miles, bike mechanics, medical volunteers from CarolinaEast Health System, and Support & Gear vehicles along the way.  Cyclists will cross the festive finish line in the afternoon at Union Point Park with cheers from teammates and spectators.  On Saturday evening, cyclists, volunteers, and supporters are invited to the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center for live musical entertainment on the veranda, a buffet dinner and moments to honor why we are riding.

Multiple sclerosis is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. There is currently no cure for MS. Symptoms vary from person to person and range from numbness and tingling, to mobility challenges, blindness and paralysis. An estimated 1 million people live with MS in the United States. Most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50 and it affects women three times more than men.

The National MS Society, founded in 1946, funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, and provides programs and services to help people affected by MS live their best lives.
