Pet: Bluebell Gaskins
Owners: Jason and Joanna Gaskins
Bluebell is a beautiful two-year old red tick hound, much loved by her pet-parents, Jason and Joanna.
For those unfamiliar with the breed, the red tick hound is a hunting dog, descended from the English Foxhound, who naturally, was trained to hunt fox, and was a favorite of George Washington. The American Coonhound evolved to chase and tree racoon, which was prized for its meat, fat and fur, and hunted by frontiersman. Lean and athletic, this dog is surprisingly gentle when “off the clock” and makes a terrific family pet.
Bluebell was rescued from Misplaced Mutts, and was one of a litter of 5. She enjoys hanging out with her two cat sisters, AJ and Purrcy, visiting Lowes and PetSmart, and traveling with her parents. She loves going on walks downtown to visit all the New Bern bears, and gets a reward afterwards from Bojangles—a yummy biscuit all to herself.
“Her special skills would be running deer off from her back yard, and annoying her cat sisters,” says Joanna. “She is the most adorable dog on the planet and she is a great guard dog. She brings so much joy to our lives. Licking us and giving kisses is her love language! Her Dad and I just love her to pieces. We travel with her a lot and take her pretty much everywhere we can. We both work a lot so she gets rewarded with special outings on the weekends.”
